| Monchique Jeep Safari. Optional hikes, meal or picnic and medronho tasting
Take a full day – away from the coast – to explore the beautiful interior and empty spaces of the Algarve. We go from Silves to the top of the Monchique hills and return by a different route. We use a classic Portuguese jeep (the “UMM”) to explore little paths and stay most of the time on dirt roads. Some parts of the ride are gentle but other parts can be steep, dusty or bumpy, so your experience will be exciting as well as beautiful. For those who like to walk (and are in good condition) there are 2 hikes we can add to the program (at no extra cost). The first short walk of 20 minutes is to some natural springs and the second longer and steeper walk of 50 minutes is to the summit. We choose the second highest summit of the Monchique hills – called “Picota” – because it is the most beautiful and untouched. On the way it is possible to stop at a local distillery to taste “Medronho” and learn about the production of this liquor. If you would enjoy a meal you can choose between a lovely restaurant or a picnic. (You can bring your own or I can prepare a picnic for you). A nice place for a picnic is at the summit while enjoying the views.
This experience is the fruit of many hours exploring off the beaten track. We follow an original route that I have chosen for the variety of the landscape. If you have some ideas of your own please let me know and the program can be adapted to suit your needs.

Guest Requirements
Up to 6 guests can attend. Minors need to be accompanied by their legal guardian.
What to Bring
Comfortable clothes and walking shoes, sun protection.
Temperatures can cool rapidly in the hills in the evening (even sometimes in the summer) so bring an extra layer for warmth and wind protection
